Lock Poker Hosts $1.5 Million “The Big Chase” Rake Race

Last Updated on

Lock Poker is now hosting a new rake race promotion called “The Big Chase – Double Agent” that promises to award 52,000 individual cash prizes amounting to more than $1.5 million of the course of December 2012 and January 2013. With 58 individual prize levels each player can advance through, any single player can win up to $75,000 in this event.

In The Big Chase – Double Agent, Lock Poker tracks your MGR earned playing at the site’s real money tables over the course of the promotional period. Every time you hit a certain milestone number of MGR, the site will deposit the associated prize as cash straight into your Lock Poker account.

Lock Poker awards cash prizes every hour in The Big Chase promotion, so there’s no long wait to receive your prizes once earned.

There are only a certain number of prizes available at each level and once they’re won, any players reaching that level won’t win a prize, though they will continue climbing toward the available prizes at the next levels higher. If that’s not enough to impel you to get playing, it also seems the folks at Lock Poker let their existing players get a leg up on the promotion, only announcing The Big Chase on their public website after the prize pools for the first dozen or so of the 58 prize levels had been exhausted But that still leaves more than half the levels remaining.

Next up: we’ll post the full chart of The Big Chase prize levels, requirements and prize amounts.

Poker Stars Looking To Purchase Atlantic City, NJ Casino

Last Updated on

It looks as though online poker giant Poker Stars is looking to branch out into land-based poker as well, with the revelation made in The Wall Street Journal last Thursday, December 6, 2012 that the site recently lauded for buying out beleagured former rival Full Tilt Poker and bailing out its debt with players worldwide is now about to make another big purchase in the form of a brick and mortar casino in none other than Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The state of New Jersey has been in the headlines a great deal, of late, with its nearly successful attempts at landmark passage of legal intrastate online poker. It’s widely viewed now that the success of one of these attempts is imminent.

So which Atlantic City casino is Poker Stars in the process of negotiating a deal to buy? How about the Atlantic City Hilton, aka The Atlantic Club Hotel-Casino, formerly known as the Golden Nugget. The estimated cost? Only $50 million. The sellers? Colony Capital.

In its deal with the DOJ, Poker Stars has agreed to pay $731 million to the U.S. government to settle a 9-count federal indictment. New Jersey’s gaming licensing regulations are notoriously strict. So it remains unclear whether Poker Stars’ recent settlement with the United States Department of Justice regarding the Black Friday seizures of April 2011 would affect the company’s ability to secure a gaming license from the state of New Jersey to operate that casino.

New Mystery Online Poker Player Rises

Last Updated on

There’s a new dark knight rising in the online poker world. Last year it was the mysterious Isildur1 only revealed after he racked up million of dollars in wins against many of poker most serious players as Viktor Blom. This year it’s the player with the difficult to pronounce username 1Il|1Il|1il|, nicknamed Barcode for convenience. In fact recently Barcode beat Isildur1 out of $173,000.

Starting out on the scene in late 2011, Barcode suffered a brutal $200,000 loss, but if that’s where his battle ended, you wouldn’t be reading this story. He finished out 2011 $1 million ahead and now, in just October 2012 alone (a month that’s not even over yet) Barcode has won $1.2 million so far, $500k of which he earned in just a single day.

Barcode’s player account is registered in Canada making some prognosticators predict that he is a Canadian, but that conclusion isn’t automatically true. There is no word yet on the mysterious player’s nationality, age or, as it happens, gender either. So while we’ve been saying “he” in talking about 1Il|1Il|1il| he could be a “she”.

Other well-known online poker players to lose big to Barcode include Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky and Jens “Jeans89” Kyllonen. Some of the players suspected to be Barcode are Di “trex313” Dang, XBLINK, or even Tom “durrrr” Dwan.

Barcode’s game of choice appears to be Pot Limit Omaha and over the past few weeks he could frequently be found at the $200/$400 PLO tables.
