Daniel Negreanu Wins WSOP Asian Pacific Main Event

Last Updated on

Kid Poker, known on his Canadian birth certificate as Daniel Negreanu, has racked up another big win in the poker world, capturing the title at the first World Series of Poker Asian Pacific main event of 2013. Beating out a 405 player field at the event held at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, Negreanu has now officially notched his fifth WSOP bracelet, his first since 2008. His payout, meanwhile, of AU$1,038,825 (or USD $1,038,825) was his first 7-figure payday in any WSOP event.

In heads-up play against the man that would become runner-up Daniel Marton, Negreanu had a commanding chip lead of 9 to 1. This also gives Negreanu the lead in the 2013 Player of the Year contest, admittedly still early in its running. But having finished fourth the Event #3, the WSOP APAC AU$2,20 Mixed Event, certainly helps. That event, incidentally, comprised of 8 games in one, was won by Kid Poker’s good friend and fellow poker pro Phil Ivey, who claimed with this win his 9th World Series of Poker bracelet.

Neagreanu’s first WSOP bracelet came in 1998 when he was just 23 years old, at the time the youngest player ever to pick up a WSOP bracelet. This WSOP APAC Main Event win brings his career winnings to over $17 million. Daniel Neagreanu travels the world representing the Poker Stars team of professional players in events like the upcoming PokerStars and Monte-CarloCasino European Poker Tour Grand Final, Europe’s largest poker tournament, taking place in Monaco, as well as the upcoming World Series of Poker in Las Vegas this summer.

Full Tilt Poker to Open .EU Site; DOJ to Announce FullTilt Player Remission “Soon”

Last Updated on

eu

A Full Tilt Poker spokesperson announced recently that the site would soon be launching a new FullTilt online poker room at .EU.

Coming soon to FullTiltPoker.eu, the site is expected to offer all the same game profile, features and promotions that the old FullTiltPoker.com offered. PokerStars, the new owners of FullTiltPoker, already has experience in this area, having successfully launched its PokerStars.eu branch back in February of 2011. When that site launched, PokerStars phased its players from Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, and other countries from pokerstars.com over to pokerstars.eu. It is expected that this is the same thing they will do with fulltiltpoker.com and fulltiltpoker.eu.

The difference between the two boils down to one thing: licensing jurisdiction. .EU websites are lienced in Malta while .COM websites are licensed on the Isle of Man.
,
It appears this may be a tactic to help players avoid paying income taxes on cash prizes they win at these sites. By switching licensing jurisdictions from the Isle of Man to Malta, players in such countries as those named above (those who would be switched from a Full Tilt Poker .COM membership to a Full Tilt Poker .EU membership) may be able to enjoy tax-free online poker winnings.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice is behind schedule in announcing remission plans for the some 1.3 million former U.S. players at Full Tilt Poker who haven’t seen their funds from those accounts, totalling some $159 million, since April of 2011. But they have said that announcement can be expected soon. We’ll bring it to you here when it happens.

Americas Cardroom Holds The Beast $50K GTD

Last Updated on

b50k

The next The Beast $50K Guaranteed tournament coming out of Americas Cardroom is coming up this Sunday, February 10, 2013. The buy-in is $50 + $5 and the name of the game, of course, is Texas Hold’em. The action starts at 6:00 pm ET.

Now keep in mind, The Beast $50K Guarantee tournament is not replacing the regular $50K guaranteed event that Americas Cardroom ordinarily has every Sunday at 7:00 pm ET. That means there’s $100K guaranteed on the table that night across just two tournaments at America’s Cardroom.

Players can avoid the $55 buy-in cost to get into The Beast $50K Guarantee through a satellite tournament, being offered daily at 6:35 pm ET. The buy-in for this event is $7 + $0.70 and each event awards the top 2 players seats The Beast $50K Guarantee.

There’s also a The Beast $50K Super Satellite taking place daily, every hour at 5 minutes after the hour. These events cost only $0.25 + $0.02. And each event awards 2 seats to that night’s The Beast $50K Satellite.

The Beast, to the uninitiated, is America’s Cardroom’s progressive rake race, offering a guaranteed jackpot that gets awarded every month. The Beast jackpot rises throughout the month as more players play at jackpot tables at the site. Players earn points for playing at these jackpot tables which are then tracked on leaderboard, with the top finishers at the end of each month winning a share of a 6-figure jackpot. Then it resets for the next month and the fun starts all over again.
