First of all, you're probably better prepared than you think ( I know I was my first live tourney. I ended up 14th in a WPT event). It will take you about 1/2 hour to settle in so try not to do anything crazy until you feel comfortable. Also, be careful trying to bluff, especially early. The blinds are low enough in the beginning for you to just take it easy and play super tight.

Also, I've been told by many women that a lot of the women who play the womens events can be total *****es. Again, this is what I hear so don't go in thinking they'll be friendly. They're there to take your money, remember that.

For $230, I say do it, if the money is a concern PM me.

Thanks for the advice I will let you know what I decide. I figured the women would be that way. I tend to play tight at the being anyway and watch what's going on at the table.

I may still make it up there to play in one of the tournaments. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Another suggestion:

If you aren't sure how you'll deal with live play... find out what the regular tourny schedule is at that casino and make sure you make an effort to play in 1 or 2 of their lower buyin regular events.

Put yourself in a mental mode where you are treating it as a major event and get used to handling chips and reading people under pressure. It'll pay dividends if your body is ready to deal with facing 1 or 2 raises and then you look down to find Aces.

I was surprised the first time it happened to me in "non house game" live play and how my hands did agree with what my brain was telling them... ended up fumbling the chips really badly.
