Question about ring games

I like to play ring games every once in awhile for small stacks. My problem is I don't have alot of money and it seems that when I bet my hand even 3 or 4 times the big blind if there is someone that has alot of money they call me. The other day after the flop I had two pair granted they were small ones. A guy kept calling me to the river and he ended up with two bigger pairs. He had nothing till the river. Got any suggestions as to what to do about that kind of player. Also I have noticed that if I get them with the best hand they will lay off chasing.

I'm the world's worst ring game player, the best person to ask for low stakes advice in probably Dunbar. For higher stakes ring games ask Borgo.

I'll be happy to answer tournament questions.

even tho fonzi didn't mention me, I'll answer anyways

first thing that strikes me in your post is
"my problem is I don't have alot* of money"

playing with scared money has to be the second worst thing to bet with, playing on tilt would be #1. If your afraid to lose, you will be afraid to win.

now with that being said, and with the rest of your post, is your a very tight player. The players probably see you as predictable, there for there is no need to chase vs someone(you) that has a made hand.

as for the calling down with nothing till the river.... that's poker
I know it sucks to hear that being said, I mean, it does get repetitive to hear that as the answer.
But what I really mean by that, is at lower limits, people will just call down with anything, maybe they think your bluffing, maybe they just don't care.

I've sat at a .02/.04 game with over $1000 in my bankroll
posted the blind first hand, got 72 sooted, and pushed all in and hit a flush.

yes it truly is a donkey play I made, and even worse that it paid off. I heard for almost an hour and half how bad of a player I was.... etc etc etc
and left the table with just over $20

When I play ring games, I prefer to play them on the smaller sites, like Cheers... where I know everyones name and game, and use my note taking skills the utmost advantage.

the most important aspect for me, with note taking is not how much more I win /hr but really how much less I lose.
I know the players that will call down with Ace rag, but not open with it. So I would be more inclined to check down a soft pair or top pair / weak kicker, and not get to excited about betting to maximize draws.

if your discussion particular hands, it really does help to provide as much detail about the hand as possible.
what might look or sound like a basic, A B C hand history, really could be totally different depending on the flavor of the flop.

Thanks for the reponse Assistanc3. I don't think I play scared money, but have a bad habit of taking the minimum to the table. Am working on that.

Well I usually play the .10/.25 tables they seem to be were I do the best. I have played the $.50/$1 tables also, but I tend to withdraw when my bankroll is good so don't usually have enough in reserve to lose. I am one to play solid poker not short stacked and hope for the best.

If you plan to play solid ring games, I suggest waiting til you get to a higher bankroll to withdraw. I have played no-limit rings at levels from .01/.02 to 5/10, and the best places to play are .5/1 and 1/2, they have the most fish that are the easiest to take advantage of. They THINK they know what they are doing, so try to make "smart" moves. If you can build up a roll to comfortably play those levels...KEEP GOING!!! You will just find more opportunities to increase your bankroll. Do not be afraid of success, if you have made withdraws already, you are playing on free money!

in your first post, you mean small stakes, not 'stack'?
