I knew when I raised on the turn I had done it one street too late, but I'm not folding this hand. Double belly with a flush on the flop. Though played incorrectly, I still think this hand shows the value of suited connectors.

interesting you say incorrectly
but i do agree suited connectors / gapped hands do pay off very well
your Implied Odds, particularly with a nice pre flop raise that is called.

I like suited connectors, but for some reason they never hit for me.

It's a pity there was not more comment on this thread as it is an interesting topic.
Obviously anyone who read the thread from which Borgo takes his quote will know that I actually said "I was not a fan of suited connectors." not that I never played them. Of course I do but I also know that drawing hands such as the one he originally mentioned I reckon are better played against a number of players as cheaply as possible to be getting the proper pot odds to do so. Additionally position is absolutely critical. If I have one rule I try to abide by, it is not to bet if I can't take a raise pre-flop and therefore playing poorly-ranked drawing hands out of position is not for me. I may not be a top-class player and not to the standard of the thread-starter but all the cash I have built-up at the various sites I play at has come for free and it has cost me nothing to play in all the buyins and League games I enter every day.
Incidentally I played Borgo's way against Borgo the other day. The first four times with sc's such as 78, 89 etc I missed the flop and saw my chipstack eroding, the next time I raised on the button and took the tiny blinds just for fun. The final time I had a real sc hand, KJclubs, I made flush and got wasted by full house and was gone one place out of the money.
Still not a fan! LOL

Suited Connectors

I won more with suited connectors then w/ big pairs
I'll never get even on pockets Aces..I think I lost more w/ AA
then any other hand.

Your reference to 6-7 suited as being your favorite hand is perfectly okay by me. But I'd take the pre-flop pocket rockets over the 6-7 any day of the week. I also like to occasionaly play suited connectors myself but I'd prefer a little higher set of connectors.

I haven't lost on A-A preflop as badly as some have, perhaps I'm just lucky but I don't believe so. I do recall losing with them to what seemed to be strange calls by my opponents to my (very) substaintial re-raises.

But back to your game. Your opponent made an extremely weak re-raise. He left his aces open to your one card spacers. Some very good luck on your part gave you a hand with 17 draws and a decent chance at the win.

Once you had that flop you were probably going to call him all the way to the river.

Best of luck to you in the future.

I read in an article that playing suited cards everytime is not a good idea.. Because when you hit a flush sometime you will like to hit it again and again and this can bring you problems in long terms.. its good to play high siuted cards but not everytime..
