Stats of my session today at PS. Was curious what everyone thinks about the #s.


500 hands played and saw flop:
- 32 times out of 61 while in small blind (52%)
- 37 times out of 58 while in big blind (64%)
- 87 times out of 381 in other positions (23%)
- a total of 156 times out of 500 (31%)

Pots won at showdown - 25 out of 38 (66%)
Pots won without showdown - 84

I'll post my thoughts in a couple days, weak spots, good spots, what pieces reflect others.

your numbers look good to me when i am playing in rings or tourneys i like to keep my flop percentage around 20%. this seem to be the number when i do my best. if you are a very aggressive player it could be a little higher.

I reckon Tournament play requires different set of controls. Long haul requires more patience and fewer flops seen. Also Freerolls are a different animal to buyins where play is often tighter.
KingBorgo doesn't say but I guess we are to assume from stats that this was not Tournament play.

He was playing cash games, he rarely play tourneys for some strange reason as he is very good at them.

I would add that in a lot of cases like this you would maybe see more blinds being defended, but the winning percentages you would have to say are very good.
DPK's 20% is quite low I would think. You would have to get a good return from those seen flops unless of course a lot of victories are made preflop, which happens a lot towards the end of tourneys or close to the bubble and the blinds are higher. In that case 20% could be a good number in tournament play. In cash games the blinds don't come into it so much. I know that tournament pro-players expect to outplay us fishies after the flop and so they should.
With regard to Fonzi's comment, if I have to play against Borgo I would much prefer it to be in a tournament, cash game-forget it!

My old style started hurting, so I changed it up. I LOVE it. Here are stats from today's session.

495 hands played and saw flop:
- 28 times out of 61 while in small blind (46%)
- 20 times out of 59 while in big blind (34%)
- 51 times out of 375 in other positions (14%)
- a total of 99 times out of 495 (20%)

Pots won at showdown - 27 out of 36 (75%)
Pots won without showdown - 65

Got all the #s right where I want them. Beautiful.

Thats exactly right Ass. There are 2 things I changed. That is one of them. I continually thought that if I hit, I was going to break them. Well, that showed in my image too, of course. Granted, I still throw that in once in a blue moon (get a little bit ancy every now and then), but, it is no longer reflected in my image.

Another thing I did was because it worked so well early. When I called a raise preflop, no matter the flop, Id call his continuation bet if I was in position on him. Frequently, early in my run at PS, Id get checked to, would bet out, and get a fold. Since Im 4-5 tabling the same 1/2 and 2/4 limits, Im playing with a lot of the same, decent players. So, they caught on to this, and would often check it to me, let me stick my neck out, and bump my ass. I kept doing this, leaving me down about $1000 in 3 days (doesnt help that I was playing a little over my bankroll). So, I took a break, went and got some new books, read through them (not any really amazing, new information, just reinforced and brought back to my attention stuff I knew) and am now back with a new, tighter style. When 4-5 tabling, youre not there to crush the game, youre there to grind out small wins on each table. My first session back, I played 4 tables of 1/2, and the least I was up on one table was $120.

What I'm trying to say here is that you can always find room to adapt. I've got a lot of hands under my belt, and consider myself proficient at the game. Yet, when things start going wrong, dont be afraid to change up your game, because you are probably doing something wrong. I will still throw out a missed flop call if I dont see any hand in a bettor's range that could allow him to hit the flop, but it isnt anywhere near the amount of times I had done so previously. Also shows the value of books. Which I recommend to EVERY poker player (unless you are on my left, then I want you dumb as hell )

I do believe that defines a good player to a great player
when your able to continue to do the right things time after time

there is no shame in going back over the books
it helps you drill into memory the things you should be doing time after time.

hopefully you continue at this new pace
and pump out equally great sessions
