Understanding the Flop

Winning in Omaha is all about understanding the flop, the first 3 community cards.

The basic Starting Omaha Hands can only get you so far and so much money,
once you start opening up your game and play the "Wrap Hands" in Omaha
your game will then evolve into something special, no really it will.

Omaha is a draw and re-draw game.
Sometimes the best hand on the flop is NOT the statistical favorite and I should mention here now,
that sometimes you should be folding the best hand if it is gonna cost to much to see turn/river.

An example of a good fold on the flop
when flopping 2 low pairs, with flush and straight draws on the flop

\side note: flopping 2 pair always scares me

What I like to do when seeing the flop, is identify what is the best hand NOW
and what is the potential for the best hand on the RIVER...
then I cringe my nose and look at my cards, do I have those missing cards?

Once you know of what hands are easy to let go and
which have value to continue is when you will start to consistently profit playing Omaha.

Try some Omaha at Pokerstars or Full Tilt for some action,
plenty of them still don't know how to play, so take advantage

this is where i get confused alot , i get a pair in my hand and the flop i get my third,i think cool , but to able to read others is the problem there , having 4 cards in hiding and most hands is too easy for that flush draw , makes it so much harder , is there a better way to understand the game ? a book , or just by trial and error ?

two pair is very dangerous in Omaha because of the re draw values
the safest way to play and doesn't matter the type of player your playing against

you want to keep the pot cheap and the main reason for that is to not have a big pot bet on the river coming at you from a bluffer.

I try to take the confidence wining a small pot, then losing a big pot on the river.

Knowing your hand and draw values that work the best with 4 cards
and not just 3 or 2 is what will help you reading flops and seeing the right turn.

The other hand that is more dangerous then two pairs in Omaha is trips. For me folding two pair is pretty easy in Omaha, especially when there are flush and straight draws. There are too many opportunities for players to hit either of those when they have four cards in their hand. If there is a chance for a straight draw, flush draw, or a better two pair, I'm folding my two pair. It might be cheap enough to see the turn but if that full house doesn't hit, then said good-bye to the two pair if the betting continues.

If you can't stand someone chasing in NLHE, I don't know how you can play this crap.

NLHE has chasers..But Omaha has CHASERS..It is 10 times worse in Omaha..My rule is don't play a drawing hand unless I'm drawing to the nutz.

nice article. its so true. i been playing this game alot on the Cake network and there is so much money to be made playing this game if you can understand how to play this game. like sharbear said 2 pair will get you in a lot of trouble but it can win a few hands too. just like any other poker game you got to take notes on players and learn how they play their hand because most people i seen playing so far will bet the same way with certain hands everytime.
