Wrap Hands

End of June to early Aug, I was playing PL Omaha tournaments on PKR
it was a 4am game, $5 buyin and had between 20-40 players

out of the 15 times I played, I cashed in 10 ($20 - $60)
won 3 , second 4, and fourth 3 times cashing

After watching replays of my poker games, I thought it was because I played strong cards from late position, then let my image take it down with my raise or re-raise. Normally that is my game, playing strong cards, and of course I did that as well. In fact most of the hands that were all-pre flop (late tournament) was with big hands.

However what I noticed that actually got me to the final table with a deep stack was my hand selection that seen turns and rivers. My starting hands that allowed me (because of the weaker players not knowing what a raise hand is) to take down monster pots which shouldn't come as a surprise but hands that had 4-6 good combination's.

Remember this is Omaha, were your dealt 4 cards instead of 2 as in Texas Holdem,
and remember you have to use 2 in your hand to make your best hand...

A player is dealt cards A-B-C and D
the combination are as follows A-B, A-C, A-D, B-C, B-D and C-D
( 6 ) different combination's

Wrap Hands In Omaha WIN YOU MONEY
what is a wrap hand? a hand that plays for the straights in combination's.
A player holding 345A with the board 67K has a "wrap", as any 3, 4, or 5, or 8 will make a straight.

if you think of your starting hands with the value of the draws + suited cards
you have also the hidden value of the straight flush, which will burn the Ace high flush almost everytime because they will assume they have the nuts. And straight flushes only happen online....

So next time your playing some PL Omaha, look at your starting hands a little closer.
Look at how many different ways your 4 cards can make combination's, its +EV.

the wrap hands sounded great , i seem to have a problem when playing omaha , i never win , the 4 cards thing with flush draws to full houses always confuse me , and gets me in trouble , and i lose all the time , i guess i need a better statagy , lol .

The thing to remember is that Omaha is a DRAW game you cant bet the best hand on the flop to strongly because most likely some one has a Boat/straight/ or flush draw and will pay to see the turn and river

spr is spot on, much like I mentioned in Understanding the Flop
which is why I put them up at the same time, because they go hand and hand.

but I mention
Quote:
side note: flopping 2 pair always scares me
simply because its so dangerous to get away, and so common to get beat.

with your wrap hands, when you keep pots small at the start
or given the right value to see turn or river, it tends to pay off specially in tournaments

the hardest part is folding, in a typical NL Texas Holdem I fold around 72-80%
in PL / FL Omaha I actually fold more
