WSOP 2009 Event #5

Event #5 of the 40th Annual WSOP is underway. This event is a Pot Limit Omaha event with a buyin of $1,500.

Day one saw 809 hopefuls start in the pursuit of the gold bracelet. Like online omaha tournaments, they were dropping like flies on day 1.

The total prizepool for the event is $11,042,085. Play continued until the money bubble burst and only the 81 winners were left. This took only a little over 13 hours to reach.

First place will pocket $237,415 and a bracelet that is "not found in stores". All the remaining players will cash at least $2,761.

Some notable names still in the hunt:
Josh Arieh
Shaun Deeb
Allen Cunningham

Event 5 is at dinner break today, with 27 players left vying for the bracelet and the 200k+ that goes along with it.

Jonathan Tare leads the field, holding nearly 400k in chips. Jason Mercier and Greg Pappas are a bit behind, both floating around 270k in chips.

2 time bracelet winner Eric Froehlich is still in the hunt, and will probably be making some moves down this final stretch to the final table.

Sadly, the live broadcast of this final table has been cancelled by Bluff to make way for the Event #4 ESPN broadcast (which I cannot watch)
