WSOP 2009 Event #4

Event #4 of the 2009 WSOP was billed as the "Stimulus Special". The $1,000 buyin apparently made a WSOP bracelet within reach for many lower stakes players.

Harrah's declared this event sold out with 6,012 entrants.
Generating a $5,410,800 prize pool.
This event required a day 1a and a day 1b to accommodate the huge field.
621 places make it to the money, and being such a large field two players busted out on the same hand!

Jeff Greco and Petr Kadavy had to split the place 621 money. $1,894. Giving each $947. So each loses $53 on their $1,000 buyin.

With this tornament just now making it into the money, the remaining players are in for a long night as the WSOP tournament directors try to get the field as close to a final table as they possibly can.

Amazingly, J. C. Tran is leading the field with 172,000 chips after an extraordinary day 1b that say him stop the day at 120,000 chips.

We are down to the final 16 in the Stimulus Special!

Dan Heimiller leads the pack, with nearly 2 million in chips, chasing that nearly $800,000 first place prize! Danny Fuhs, with 1.5 million, and Panayote Vilandos, with 1.3 million, are right behind him, undoubtedly looking at that first place prize.

I expect we will hear from professional Steve Sung, in 5th chip position with right around 1 million, before this tournament is through. Sung, who has numerous WPT and WSOP final tables, is no stranger to high stakes poker, and will undoubtedly be unaffected by the pressure.

Lee Watkinson was the longest lasting bracelet holder in this event, going out around 40th place.

Stick around to see how this one wraps up!

And then there were three!

My prediction of Steve Sung yesterday is now the chip leader, holding 10 million of the less than 20 million chips in play. Panayote Vilandos is in second chip position with 4.8 million, and James Matz III is in third with 3.2 million.

From 6,000, these players have battled, each earning himself at least a $300,000 payday tonight. However, I expect each player will be disappointed without the three quarters of a million first place prize.

Make sure to stay tuned for the announcement of the winner!

Steve Sung wins Event #4 and the $771,106 that goes with it, beating the largest field ever outside of the Main Event!
