WSOP 2009 Event 3 - $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8-or-better

Many of the big names that busted out of the 40k event are now playing Event 3 - $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8-or-better. As of the last count there are roughly 1000 players today. That's a great turnout for a non hold em game. We'll keep you up to date on the days winners and losers as the day progresses.

Great shot of my friend FTP pro Perry Friedman before the start of today's tournament

Can't Even Win With Five Cards

Event 3

a few minutes ago this crazy thing happened

Over at Justin Phillips' table, there was a pot involving Phillips and two other players. One of the players was all in and at the showdown when all three players revealed their holdings, the all-in player noticed he had five cards instead of four. The floor was called over to the table and the ruling was that the five-card hand was a dead hand. Because he hand was declared dead, the player was eliminated. Phillips and the third player in the hand then chopped up the pot.

Mike "The mouth" Matusow is playing in both tournaments! (Event 2 and 3)

801 players left at the break. No reliable chip counts yet because of the huge field. Daniel Negreanu tweets that he has 12, 400 chips at the break (starting stack 4500)
Barry Greenstein also tweets his roughly 7k chips, while Andy Bloch weighs in with 6,050 as his stack

After the first day of play the 918 player field has been whittled down to 208 hopefuls. With 90 players getting paid, the field still needs to do some work before at least getting their buyin back.
