UIGEA's effect on Live Tournaments

Hey everyone, I'm still alive. Now that it is summer, I have a job. This job is at a desk, which means email and HPC will be visited frequently. Hope things are going well!

Now, I had a thought today, while sitting in a meeting. I'm currently working my way on Steps to get a WSOP seat, and with the UIGEA's effective date around the corner, a question came to mind: how will this affect travel expenses?

Many sites provide 12k seats to the ME, buyin plus 2k travel expenses. While the travel expenses (unless you are coming overseas) are rarely over 2k, will this make it harder for the travel expenses to be acquired? With EFTs being made illegal, how would one who wins a seat acquire the funds to travel? I see it working as picked up in Vegas, but would that dissuade people from pursuing it, unable to put the cash up front? Have sites considered this for the 2010 WSOP season?

As I said, just something I considered. Hopefully, I win the seat via the Steps, and can answer this completely, but pending that, I was curious if anyone knows anything or has thoughts.

We'll find out in less than a week.

The PPA almost had a deal in place to give online poker a carveout but Sen John Kly from AZ would have to have approved it and he didn't. We really need to get this guy out of office.

Interesting question. When poker sites mail you a check does it actually have the name of their company? I have only gotten 2 checks from poker sites. Neither had the name of the poker site on it. The check came from a third party check processing center.

I have gotten paper checks and e-checks from various sites, and they have never had any visible connection to a poker site

They all use 3rd party processors, the real question is will UIGEA give law enforcement the freedom to go after more of these processors.

Paper checks are not supposed to be scrutinized under the UIGEA

In order for a third party processor to issue a paper check, there will have to be an EFT from the site to the processor. I think that is where the UIGEA would come into effect, for that processor handling the transfer would be in violation of the UIGEA.

Those are usually handled by banks outside the US
