always raise with pocket jacks preflop another tricky hand i find is ace ten suited or unsuit its prety but also a scary hand . pocket jacks is 50 50 ur either gonna cash big or get a little dent in your chip stack . good luck on the felt from gunn56

I agree with Fonzi that JJ is a lot about feel, say your in late position and you got someone raising 4xBB UTG and 2 caller ahead, you have to go on your reads so far of the players in the hand, are they holding each others outs? (e.g. AK, AQ, KQ) which puts your hand in an advantageous position.
Or are you in trouble with a higher pair and over cards out there, which leave you drawing to 2 outs.
Having made the call say, we then have at least one of the other players making a C-bet before you and you need to use the flop and your hand ranges of your opponents to decide if they're just making a continuation bet or whether they're trying to get more value out of a hand they're winning

this is probably why most inexperienced players in tourny's just throw it all in preflop hoping to get a lucky break and double up or better, the more experienced player juggles the odds and his instincts to minimise loss while maximise profit, they may not treble up, but they don't run as much risk of donking out either

Jacks

I just hate jacks and 10's I have the worst luck with them I always seem to get the in a late position where if I raise i will probably get some callers. They just don't work for me unless it seems if I go all in that's about it. I don't know how many times I have busted out late in tourneys with those two hands. Just hate them I almost cringe when I get them.. Maybe I just haven't figured how to play them yet. LOL

I'm quite like the words of Ultimate Hearts and instincts, I'm sure you need instincts to be able to win.
How can I miss this treads?
I don't know much about the pot odds but I know how to deal with my Pocket JJ both in Live & Online. :)

Short stacked I always push all in. Otherwise, it depends on many factors like position, chip count, position in the tourney, tight or loose table, etc...In general a standard bet of around 3x the blind is good, or just shove. Early position you can sometimes just smooth call and then reraise if there are any raisers, but you risk several callers and if the flop has overcards, you have to be very careful....Usually, just raise and be wary of overcards....

Take them for what they are a very good, but very vulnerable hand. I like JJ I will ussually raise or call a raise with JJ... depends on the game but a fold to a reaise is acceptable especially if you like being ahead when you see a flop.. I don`t set mine with JJ because a flop with a J will hit alot of hands with str8 draws so if you make your set you will get stacked alot of the time by a str8. Great hand late in tourney when blind stealing is a priority..Worse thing about a pair is if your beat you rarely have more then two outs.. JJ is a hand I will push preflop probably more then any other just because there are not many flops that you are actually comfortable with when you have pocket jacks.
