Poker News for July 25th, 2009

There isn't much going on in the world of poker, so we'll just get you all caught up on everything that's taken place over the last week or so.

The PPA spent National Poker Week in Washington DC getting support for online poker. Many top pros met with the leaders on Capitol Hill and it seems some progress was made on the fight to legalize online poker.

Russia has declared that poker is no longer a sport leaving Pokerstars to move the August EPT Moscow event to Kiev. Way to go Russia, just as Poker is taking off in your country, you go and do something stupid.

Full Tilt Poker Pro Beth Shak, Shacking up with Kid Rock? According to Fox411. “Kid Rock cozied up to her at an industry event a few weeks ago,” the insider says. “He even grabbed her rear end a few times and got her number, contacting her ever since.”

“His pursuit of her makes sense,” the source adds. “She looks just like his ex, Pam Anderson, except with brown hair.”

Last weekend, Full Tilt Poker tried to set the world record for most online players in one game only to be bitch slapped by Pokerstars who ran a similar game that drew 65,000 players. Don't se surprised to see another attempt before the end of the year.

And if you don't already know, Phil Ivey made the November 9.

"Americans have played poker throughout history. Playing poker on the internet is simply an example of an American tradition evolving into the 21st century. It is unfathomable that poker, an American pastime and game of skill, should be banned for the millions who enjoy playing responsibly."
