2009 WSOP Main Event 1D - SOLD OUT

Players wanting to play in day 1D of the WSOP Main Event woke up to a rude awakening this morning as the event sold out overnight. It's estimated that 500 players were shut out of the Main Event including some big names.

The worst story I heard today was about a US soldier who took an airplane and two helicopters to get to Las Vegas from Afganistan only to be told he could not play.

I have no suggestions for getting players to play on one of the first 3 days, but having a day 1 on the 4th of July I believe is a huge mistake. As a proud American I prefer to spend the day BBQing with family and friends than being at a poker table. I wouldn't want to be playing on the 5th of July either as I would like to use it as a rest day.

Did you see Obama? I heard someone bought him into the main event, but he probably wont show up for it I guess.

The ME has 4 days (1A, 1B , 1C and 1D) with a cap of 3000 players a day. But in the previous days that 3000 cap wasnt reached so the total for this year is 6494 people playing the WSOP Main Event.

The lesson here seems to be: if you want to play the ME, dont wait till the last day!

Wow, half of the people playing started on 1D, that's just disgusting. I think Fonzi is on to something here, Having any part of a major event on the 4th is just wrong. What is the darn rush ... stard 1A on the 5th, for those who aren't recovering from the 4th... there will be plenty and then the ME can work the 6th - 8th for the rest of Day one and be off to the races... that or you damn well should have day 1 completed with 1D on the 3rd of July... take the 4th off and come back for day 2 on the 5th & 6th. If you expect to have a bad hangover on the 5th... play on the 2nd or 3rd C or D and you are spared the 5th (or just play BAD).

I'd prefer the ME started on the 5th, you can easily find a 1500 to start on the 3rd, 4th... plenty of lower end players will step up on those days to avoid their families for the pursuit of riches, fame and that wonderful bracelet. If you wish, move the Ante up for Africe tourny before the last big 4day $1500 event... players like me can come in, watch the celebs play, enjoy the scene it builds in the vastness of the Rio WSOP arena and jump in to the $1500... and BOOM, we get ME madness.
