World Series of Poker 2009

The time has come again this year for thousands to head to Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker, trying to become the next Hellmuth, Moneymaker, or Brunson. These people all see that lofty goal of winning a WSOP bracelet as within reach, and are willing to put up thousands in order to try to see this dream become a reality.

The first event open to the public is a new event, added this year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the WSOP. In order to try to win a bracelet in this event, players will be asked to put up $40,000 to buy into the event, the most expensive of the No-Limit Hold'em tournaments and second most expensive tournament of the Series.

Also worthy to note is the Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em World Championship, which, like all of the World Championship events, is a $10,000 buyin. Huck Seed and Vanessa Rousso, the first and second place winners of the NBC Heads-Up Championship this year, respectively, are most definitely favorites to do well in this event.

The most expensive tournament entry, the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event, must be noted here. The late Chip Reese won the inaugural event back in 2006, but Freddy Deeb and Scotty Nguyen have kept Americans out of the winner's chair. Expect to see only the best (or richest) participating in this event.

Finally, to end the WSOP, we have the all-important MAIN EVENT! The $10,000 event, which had nearly 7,000 entries, is the most prestigious event in the poker world. Last year, Peter Eastgate won $9,152,416 by winning this event. Nobody knows how many entrants this year will bring.

In between these events, there are numerous Omaha, Draw, Stud, Hold'em, and Mixed events, with buyins ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, with all levels in between. In total, there are 57 events in this year's WSOP, with bracelets being given out in every one. Many poker sites, including Cake Poker, Full Tilt Poker, and Pokerstars, are providing satellite tournaments to many of these events.

Make sure to stick around HPC for updates on all of these awesome events, or, if you are going to be in any of them, make sure to let us know so we can watch for you!
