Satellite Poker Tournaments
There are many different levels of buyins for poker tournaments these days, much like the very first satellite was created to get more players in to the bigger buyins, the World Series of Poker. Tournament director Eric Drache suggested in 1978 to a cash table game that they play their $1,000 chips and the winner take all freezeout gets the $10,000 Buyin. That was the birth of the satellite tournaments.
Winner of the 1983 World Series of Poker Main Event, Tom McEvoy had gain his entry to the Main Event by winning a satellite seat. Another known satellite winner of the Main Event is Chris Moneymaker who won in 2003 with a $40 buyin. Who with his victory has been credited with the boom of poker in the 'modern era'. 2004 another satellite winner takes down the Main Event, Greg Raymer satellite in at $160.
Satellite poker tournaments have become well known now in the online poker rooms most of these sites have their own "tab" much like Omaha or Holdem tabs for finding a game. There are different types of tournaments at any given buyin, but the out come is the same. A seat is awaiting to the victor.
The Super Satellites are those that offer more then 1 seat, normally it is depended on how many entrants in the given satellite tournament. The strategy for these tournaments greatly differ then the normal freezeout winner take all. Now you no longer have to accumulate all the chips to win, you simply just have to survive in position.
Many players are "satellite pro's" who want to take advantage of the buyin low and win big opportunity. If your looking to get a little more out of your bankroll and the opportunity to play for a larger payout then satellite poker should be something to look at.
