I believe it was during the 1990 WSOP, Ungar finished 9th.

My buddy was over here earlier arguing about how dumb this is...but really, everyone gets 9th place money right off. They get a couple months to promote themselves, and a free trip to vegas. "all expenses paid" In the TV business, that means all expenses...and probably a ton of perks...(maybe even free percs). Plus, this is the price the sport must pay if its going to grow its popularity. It would be like football telling TV that they won't stop playing for TV timeouts, not doing this to help espn create the drama they need to get better ratings would be just as dumb and shortsighted.

So quit your whining. Take your Million dollars, live it up, do the interviews and savor the 15 minutes of fame.....now you just have to get to that final table.

Very Surprised it took until now to make this move.

Considering you are likely up a cool Million if you make the final table, it was started right. Promote your own ass off, set up a good shirt & Hat deal and come back nearly half a year later and donk out like a complete skunk. I like it.

Pretty silly if you ask me. What's next ..... the Super Bowl and World Series in July, Stanley Cup playoffs just before the next season starts. I could see maybe a week of self promotion, but 117 days is ridiculous, IMO.

personally I think this is a bad move
its only gonna make problems on those making the final table
harassments , people getting Nancy Kerrigan , etc

Dangerous

At first I liked the idea until i thought about how much is at stake. Millions even to 9th place. We all know what can happen with that much money at stake. People go missing, die, mysterious illness etc and for alot less money.
Loan sharks are going to come out of the woodwork offering advances with percent of winnings. Law suits are going to pop up against the players to grab some of their winnings...ie exwifes...disgruntled employees etc.
Players are going to send scouts out to secretly tape and watch other players habits. tells etc.
Its already enough pressure getting ready for the next day. Wow imagine 117 days? Its going to be a nightmare.
