2010 Hall of Fame Nominees Announced

Earlier this month, The World Series of Poker released the 10 nominees who have been selected for the 2010 WSOP Poker Hall of Fame.

Between July 1st and August 31st, poker fans logged into WSOP website and cast their votes for who they believed should be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

After the ballots has been verified and approved by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council, they will be forwarded to 16 of the living Hall of Fame members, along with a 17 person media panel. From there, the votes will be calculated. The top two players that receive the majority of the votes will be inducted into the WSOP Poker Hall of Fame.

There is a criteria, governed by the WSOP, that each nominee must meet to qualify:

• A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
• Played for high stakes
• Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
• Stood the test of time
• Or, for nonplayers, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

I remember visiting the WSOP site and voting for my two players and posting it recently on the forum. I am happy to see that both of my choices are on the list, Dan Harrington and Phil Ivey. As I look at the list, I have to strongly agree with one that I never even thought of, which is Linda Johnson. In my opinion, she has contributed greatly through the years both behind the scenes and as a player. This is a tough list and the ones responsible for the selection have their work cut out for them. Many feel there should be an age minimum before you can be inducted, but the WSOP does not have such as rule. I don’t envy those that have to pick it. But by looking at this list, I don’t think any of them would be a poor choice.

In 2009, Mike Sexton was inducted as the 38th member of the Poker Hall of Fame. This has been a prestige honor for players and those associated with poker since its inception in 1979.

The induction ceremony will take place during the November Nine weekend in Las Vegas, where the final table of the WSOP Main Event will wrap up.

Here are the nominees:

Chris Ferguson
Barry Greenstein
Jennifer Harman-Traniello
Dan Harrington
Phil Ivey
Linda Johnson
Tom McEvoy
Daniel Negreanu
Scotty Nguyen
Erik Seidel

It's really brutal that only two players from that list can get in.

Dan Harrington wrote what was considered for years to be the poker bible.

Jen Harmon has done more for females in poker than anyone else, by simply NOT acting like a female. No sexy ads, ect. She's taken seriously as a poker legend because she presents herself as such.

Daniel Negreanu had one of the most consistently dominant runs in poker history, and his post flop reads are the best in the game.

Phil Ivey is Phil Ivey.

Those 4 should be a lock, and that's not even counting the rest of the very deserving nominees.

It's a shame they only take 2.

Erik Seidel and Dan Harrington are in. Phil Ivey came out and said he will refuse the honor until he is older than the 43 yrs that Chip Reese was when he entered.

They all deserve to be in JMO. I would like to see Greenstein or Harrington get in this time.

A legitimate argument could be made for each of these people and one has to think that over the next 10 years they will all make it in.
