Cake Poker Network has signed a deal with Atlantis Internet Group to develop the Tribal Gaming Network in the United States. Before you rush to grab your debit card, this will be a very special network. The Tribal Gaming Network will be available in Indian Casinos throughout the United States. The significance of this move is that the National Indian Gaming Commission approved the addition of online poker for Indian casinos. Or at least handed down a "legal opinion" that it was ok.
NIGC is a US government agency. From their
NIGC Home Page site "the Commission is authorized to conduct investigations; undertake enforcement actions, including the issuance of violation, assessment of civil fines, and/or issuance of closure orders; conduct background investigations; conduct audits; and review and approve Tribal gaming ordinances."
The CEO of Atlantis had this to say "Our Indian version of the CGN, called the ‘Tribal Gaming Network’ (‘TGN’) offers an immediate and legal solution to Indian casinos nationwide, providing the largest online poker network in the U.S. This is a significant milestone for ATIG and
Cake, and will become an immediate economical shot in the arm for Tribes and states facing deficits nationwide.”
Except for the above quote, details are in their infancy at this time. From what I can gather, this will be a closed private network that works just in Indian casinos. It does not sound like they will be offering the same ring games and tournaments found on the
Cake Poker Network. The way it comes out, I think it will be the
Cake software with their own ring games and maybe tournaments that only guests at Indian casinos can play on.
Still this is a significant step for legal US poker. Also, this is a huge deal for the
Cake Network and has to be considered somewhat of a coup over all the bigger sites out there. So, if you are heading to an Indian casino, you may want to bring your laptop along.
