Another Cheating Scandal - This time UltimateBet

Just as the Absolute Poker cheating scandal is finishing up with the Kahnawake Gaming Commission Report, we have new allegations of a superuser account at UltimateBet were the account has access to other players hole cards. This story just broke and doesn't yet have the overwhelming evidence that the Absolute Poker scandal has.

The allegations center on a player with the nickname ?NioNio?, who allegedly beat several top online professionals in a high stakes no limit game on UltimateBet using a very unusual playing style. The allegations are posted on the 2+2 forums.

Excerpt from dlpnyc21?s post on 2+2:

"I will post the highlights from the original thread. To be clear, trambo and I believe we were victims of a superuser who could see our cards. Others believe there was highly highly suspicious play/winrate/stats from Nionio on ub from the period of july-september. We have around 3k hands during which time nionio was up 300k. This alone would be a massive heater for anyone at 25/50 and 50/100 but what?s more surprising is that he played another 5k hands (which we do not have right now but know he played based on mypokerintel) at THE SAME WIN RATE. This means that potentially he took over 700k out of the games. He brutalized all the best and winngest players on the site. If you want more hand histories, email omniheart or myself or trambopoline. The most damaging evidence so far is the HU session vs. trambo, where he plays ?perfectly? (in the worlds of trambo), floating/raising every time trambo tried to bluff/folding when trambo had good hands.

He is up massively v. myself, trambo, arbian night, whee, cts, basically any respected 2p2er he destroyed. For a LOT of $."

Trambopoline states in a separate thread that he has been in contact with Phil Hellmuth about it.

Excerpt:

"Anyways after tracking down Phil at the tables I finally got a hold of him, this time for real. I just got off the phone wiht him after speaking with him for well over an hour. He informed me that he understands I made an honest mistake and totally forgives me, and even informed me to post that he said so. We went over the accounts in question and I got to say, he was very suspicous to say the least. . He informed me that UB has already started an investigation and that info should be released within the next few weeks. He is going to call me again within the next 1-3 days. That is all im going to comment on the issue right now, once again im terribly terribly sorry and I hope this does not tarnish my name"

Both UltimateBet and Absolute Poker are owned by the same company. Again this story just broke and we'll keep you posted as it develops.

I have the site, but don't really play there. Guess it's time to delete that one.

It's early yet guys and much like the AP scandal, it only affects high limit players. But they need to their act together.

this is why i voted NO in that other thread about using AP

how hard would it be for someone who has the ability ( example the AP scandal) to give out how he did it for some $$

drag and drop, point and click.... thats how hard

so untill AP/UB etc change up, and not just wash away
there is no point of me going to those sites.

In the AP scandal, the superuser account was from the inside. So giving it away would not have been feasable.

I stopped playing UB after reporting some cheating and they did not do anything about it. Cheats are everywhere, you can only be diligent and try and to get too exposed. You would have to think that any poker room would be looking at the high stakes cash games all the time, when you consider what lengths Casinos go to, online sites don't appear to care too much, although I appreciate it must be much harder to police.
I hope that the AP decision will make the others tighten up. With all this happening and being made very public it is no wonder the US Goverment has concerns about online betting.

It seems the Ultimate Bet cheating scandal is still on peoples minds. Pokernews table talk reports from the Main Event have several top professionals still talking about superuser accounts.

At least they seem to be trying to fix these problems and players are being reimbursed.

Now if they would just update the interface.

new press release about more superuser accounts, and an unsubstantiated report tying one of their former pros to the superusers. I won't name names here, since its unsubstantiated.

Our very own IronGirl has posted an in depth blog article about the cheating scandal. Have a read, but make sure you have some time as she links to some very long posts.
