Phil Ivey decided to open his high stakes this year by putting money on the Cardinals. The "play" was discussed on his radio show 'Tuesdays with Ivey' with Barry Greenstein.

The Cardinals may have lost the match but they managed to win some cash for Ivey. It turns out that he made a +3.5 points bet for the first half and +7 points for the win on the Cardinals.

The first half ended up down for Arizona Cardinals 17 - 7. "The point is it was a 14-point coaching error, and it cost me about 800," Ivey said. (Of course 800 for a high staker like Phil Ivey means $800,000.

The Cardinals lost to the Steelers by 4 points only at the end of the match so Ivey managed to cash there. At the radio show Barry Greenstein asked Ivey if he had made some winnings or broke even and Ivey responded "Broke even or won about 800 total - what's the difference?".
