When will they learn? Rule #1 of gambling degeneracy should be "Do not bet against Phil Ivey when WSOP bracelets are on the line". Just that one rule could probably pay for a year's worth of prop bets and silly stunts for the unfortunates who bet against this bracelet machine at the World Series of Poker. You can probably guess where all this is leading to. Phil Ivey has indeed won his eighth WSOP bracelet in Event #37 of the 2010 WSOP.
Event #37 was a limit HORSE event with a $3,000 buyin. Mr. Ivey bested a field of 478 to cause panic among those who foolishly bet against him winning bracelets. Reports have millions of dollars wagered against Phil Ivey in various bracelet bets. This is probably one of the few instances that the jewelry has more real value than the $329,840. There is, of course, intrinsic value to all WSOP bracelets, but seldom does holding the bracelet in your hands pay more than the prize money.
Most people will tell you that Phil Ivey is the best poker player in the world today. He also has a huge following in the high stakes cash games on
Full Tilt Poker. It would seem difficult to understand why anyone would bet huge sums of money against such a man. Such is the nature of Las Vegas and the people who call it home I guess.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with exactly what HORSE is, it consists of Limit Hold'em, Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, Seven Card Razz,
Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better. Check out our
