Phil Laak, aka "The Unabomber" has the new world record for “Longest Poker Game”. He not only beat the old world record he destroyed it. The old world record was 72 hours and change. The new record is 115 hours. "Wow, 115 hours, I should have my head examined," said Laak, "I am definitely sick." Are you kidding? That is sick. I don't know about you but I don't think I could stay awake 115 hours, much less play poker that long.
A webcam was set up so that anyone could pop in and view the live event. More than 130,000 people, from 90 plus countries viewed the webcam. Stakes were 10/20 and he actually ended his 115 hour world record session with winning $6,766. He has already committed to donating half his winnings to Camp Sunshine. Phil Laak stated “This has been one of the most wonderful journeys I’ve ever taken, touchingly human and beautiful on so many levels. Thanks to everyone who shared in this amazing ride.”
Jennifer Tilly showed her support by spending plenty of time with Phil. He also had some of his friends to come by to encourage him. Antonio Esfandiari, Scotty Nguyen, Prahlad Freidman, James Mitchell, Rod Fani, Eric Liu, Huck Seed, David Wells, Mike Matusow and Jean-Robert Bellande, to name a few.
Guinness World Records staff still need to verify the documentation and videotaping for the record to be certified. This will take some months to complete.
Some of the things Phil did to help set his world record were stretches, yoga sessions, showers, and changed his t-shirt some 20 times. "About every four or five hours, when I take a bathroom break, I do a quick submarine shower, change my T-shirt and powder my butt and the underside of my legs." said Laak, "Any place where my body mass is pressing against the chair, I put powder on."
After 10 plus hours of sleep Phil Laak posted on his twitter "Woke up - had 2 bowls of cereal, then as an after thought had a ham sandwich. Thinking about going to play some 10/20 at the Bellagio." Well it is good to see that his sense of humor is intact.
