Michael Karnjanaprakorn, a New York poker player, has started an effort to generate charity funds from the World Series of Poker (WSOP). His idea is to get people to pledge money to buy him into the WSOP Main Event and he will donate 100% of his winnings to charity. His World Series of Good (WSOG) has just begun accepting donations but has already signed up some big names in poker to help out.
Karnjanaprakorn conceived of the idea while talking with Rafe Furst at last year's WSOP. Furst, of Tiltboys fame, remains involved with the project and part of the proceeds will got to Bad Beat on Cancer, the charity founded by Rafe and Phil Gordon. If Karnjanaprakorn is successful in raising the the $10,000 buyin for the WSOP Main Event, he will receive training and coaching from some of the biggest names in poker. Annie Duke and Andy Bloch are already signed up to get him ready for the Main Event.
As well as the possibility of Michael cashing for a big score at the 2010 WSOP Main Event, the WSOG is designed to draw attention to Phil Gordon and Rafe Furst's efforts to get players to pledge at least 1% of their WSOP winnings to the
Prevent Cancer Foundation. The prevent Cancer Foundation is the charity behind all Bad Beat on Cancer initiatives. Many professional players will be wearing the 1% patch at this year's WSOP.
Donations for WSOG can be made at the popular charity fundraising site
Kickstarter. To learn more about the charities that are set to benefit from the effort, or to check in on the progress of it go to the
