At a Las Vegas conference on Tuesday, 11-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth handed the captain title for World Team Poker's Team USA to Doyle Brunson.
Doyle Brunson is one of the greatest legends of poker of all times and he gladly accepted to join forces with Hellmuth. "If he accepts I'm going to give him the captain jersey because he deserves it, and I'll play the number two spot," Hellmuth said.
The inaugural event of World Team Poker will be next month in Las Vegas and 40 of top poker pros in the world will play each other in 8 world teams. Team USA will be formed by Hellmuth, Brunson, Annie Duke and brother Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harman, Chris Ferguson, Erik Seidel, Mike Matusow and Allen Cunningham.
Other team will be Team China co-captained by Johnny Chan and David Chiu, Team Australia, co-captained by Jeffrey Lisandro and Tony G, Team Israel, captained by Eli Elezra, Team Vietnam, captained by Men "The Master" Nguyen, Team England captain by Ben Roberts, Team Brazil, captained by Juliano Maesano, and Team Greece co-captained by George Kapalas and George Theofanopoulos.
The event will be a $50,000 one day TV event and there will be five table shootouts with rounds of Limit and No Limit Hold'em and Pot Limit Omaha.
