Barry Greenstein, Tony G, Jonathan Karamalikis and Phil Ivey did not prove to be strong enough against Dan Shak at the $100,000 Challenge at the Aussie Millions.
Dan Shak bested them all, including what everyone thought would be an invincible obstacle, having Phil Ivey as your opponent in heads-up play. However, Phil Ivey had to do with his second place finish and an AUD 600,000 prize which has moved him to the top of the all time money list in tournament poker.
When heads-up play started, Dan Shak had the shortest stack but he decided to play it agressively and soon took the lead. His strategy overall was to avoid post-flop play against a more skillful opponent and played very fast preflop when he thought he was ahead.
For the final hand Ivey raised pre-flop and Shak shoved in with A 7 and got called by Ivey with A T. Luckily, he paired up his 7 in the flop and that was it for the win. "I just got the better cards, he's the best player in the world hands down," Shak said after being handed the winner's cheque.
These are the final results of the event:
1. Dan Shak 1.200.000 AUD
2. Phil Ivey 600.000 AUD
3. Billy Jordanou 300.000 AUD
4. Tony Bloom 200.000 AUD
5. Tony G 100.000 AUD
