2nd Annual World Series of Poker Europe Underway

The 2nd World Series of Poker Europe kicked off today with Annette Obrestad leading the poker prayer with the words "Shuffle up and deal!"

Today's Day 1 for the £1,500 NLHE event started with Annette being given 20 cakes in celebration of her 20th birthday, which will be shared out amongst the players at the first break.

This time last year Annette had just won the 1st WSOPE Main Event and celebrated with a cool £1 million GBP to take into her final teenage year.
Notable pros are already in attendance at the Casino at the Empire in Leicester Square, where all events are being held this year, and include Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and Chris Ferguson.

The Casino at the Empire has received a make over for this years events now featuring 3 TV tables with plenty of spectator seating and is garnering a lot of praise for it's new poker friendly direction.

Roughly 190 players are taking part in Day 1 with a total of 430 expected to take part in total creating a prize pool of £650,000.
