kids and poker

what do you think is the right age for your kids to start playing poker.
would you let them play online, and would you let them play for real money.
i have let my daughter who is 12 play a few freerolls for me that i could not play in. i think she just wanted to do something that her father likes to do, and does'nt really care if she plays or not. but if at sometime she shows an interest in the game i think i would try to teach her what i know and see how and see how she does for real. what do you guys think.

The best age for kids to start playing is 15 years but they can watch the game if they are younger.

I think you need to go back to basics. Most of us played some form of poker at a very young age with family and friends. I remember sitting at the kitchen table and playing card games at age 8 or so.

So my advice is play card games with your kids at the kitchen table. In a time where family time is harder and harder to come by, this is a great opportunity to spend time with family. And don't just play poker, their are many other fun games you can play like Hearts. I think Bridge may be too hard to teach a young one.

Now as for poker, If I had a 12 year old, I would teach her to play PL Omaha. Players are getting very bored with playing NL Holdem and the next logical game to be big is PL Omaha. Remember this post 5 years from now when the PLO events are all over the TV.

"Americans have played poker throughout history. Playing poker on the internet is simply an example of an American tradition evolving into the 21st century. It is unfathomable that poker, an American pastime and game of skill, should be banned for the millions who enjoy playing responsibly."

I also learned at a young age, but it was with family at the kitchen table too. I don't think playing on line is a good idea until she has the basics down and understands the game. You don't want her to get bad habits I sure you want her to learn the right way.

I used to play 7 stud with my family (my dad had 6 brothers and sisters) at my grandmother's house when I was 5 yrs old. I remember one time especially vividly because I sat beside my uncle Ralph (perfectionist) and kept winning, and it pissed him off. I know it was for dimes, I remember raking a pot full of dimes.

Yeah, teaching at home. I dont think online is the best place for any child, let alone one learning poker
