Can you win at online poker sites?

I have been playing poker since I was 12. My father a poker player and we played for fun at home. Last 4 years I have been playing texas holdem poker NL with friends several times a week. Also I go to Atlantic City and play. I think I am a good player.

I signed up for carbon poker and fulltilt and playing thier freerolls and play money and finding out the bad beats are incredible. I know bad beats happen I experienced many in my playing. But online the bad beats number many against me I would say realistically 95%
so far against me. Calling my raises with nothing and catching winning hands on river, or calling needing 2 runners to win, or calling with just A high, or like my recent bad beat AA allin with over 15,000 and he calls puting his tourny life on the limb with his 12,ooo odd chips with 72 off suit and makes fullhouse.

I am afraid to put money in online poker sites. they do not act anything like real live poker.

I like to know if I am paranoid or just missing something????

It seems to me like you've had a very bad run. I play live as well, so I can tell you from experience that the bad beats online seem to be much worse for three main reasons. You are seeing 3-4 times more hands online than you would in a live game. Also, you are playing in freerolls. Players in freerolls tend to play very wild. You wont see someone calling an allin with 27os in a $200 buyin tournament. The last reason is simple, if you make a stupid call in a live game and win, the players at your table will let you hear it. Online you'll hear it, but who cares, they're not sitting across from you.

If you want to play in what I consider to be the most realistic online poker site, give Pokerstars a try. The players are better and for some reason, I haven't experienced as much bad luck.

Hope I answered some of your concerns.

Just felt like more than bad luck. I am not saying online suspicious. But feels strange. I play on carbon free sit n go's. played 23 times already. 21 times I got to heads up with more chips than the other. Every time it went the same way. I stopped geting playable cards and then when I did played them aggressive and got called with rags and turn river did me in. 21 times same way. Get me frustrated.

Do you play online profitably? I normall play small limit holdem. not $200 tourneys I am trying to keep to a slow ball style of play seems I do best that way.

Thanks for the reply. I keep it under consideration. I won't stop playing freerolls, if anything good practice recovering from tilt lol

yes, I play profitably. I won't discuss amounts on here for obvious reasons. I also only play tournaments, my cash game is horrible.

My advice is to keep at it, thats a really bad run you've been on but over time, good play wins out. And as you said, it's good practice. It's much easier to play against good players then it is to play with a bunch of donkeys, so in the end your reads will be much better. It will also help your live game.

its so true.. the ring games are very different than the ournaments.. i particularry enjoy more a tournament or a sit and go than a ring game.. bad beats appear all the time.. its part of the game but dont lose hope someday you are going to be the winner of a bad beat

I just cant believe the online site honest

I just cant believe the online site honest. I had time today to play alot and the bad beat rate is still around 95% against me. There just not that consistant of bad luck period. I just played a tourney on doyles. Had JJ went allin with it and 1 caller with 5 10 offsuit and he caught 4 5's. I hate to be so negative but this just doesn't look honest

Why would a site be against 1 player and for another? What do they gain by doing this?

Well I am not going to be the one to cry and complain till I am blue in the face. That is pointless. I said what I said and decided that they are not honest and I will never put real money in them.

But the reasoning I had a discussion with someone about and I have to agree to a point. He used absolute poker for a example. The poker site have freerolls and cash game. The freerolls, if you add all of the money they give away in a year it comes to a impressive ammount and reason for them to keep it. So they put thier own players in the game to win the majority of the money back. They also put thier own players in the cash games so not only do they get the rake but most of the cash players money as well. They have the games rigged somehow for them to win. Or they're doing what absolute got caught doing. The poker employee players computer show all cards or all players so they know what to do. I dismissed what I was told at first. but more I play, the more I have to belive it. Greed is what anyone cheats, poker rooms to billion dollar businesses.

Anyway I am not going to get in consistant complaining about it. I will just not play online for money. Stick to home games and casino's where I win alot. Play freerolls just for fun and passtime, never expect to win. But keep playing in my style without tilting and with disapline

I know what you mean about bad beats. Just play your game and be patient. You can win freerolls, but it is not easy.
