bounty tournys

i use to like these kind of tournys, because i thought i had a good chance to get my buy-in back if i knocked someone out. then i played one the other night. $1000 gtd, took 5th and kocked out about 7 players at a $1 a head. for a total of about $36 and some cents. with $500 in bountys counting for 1/2 the $1000gtd prize pool. the overall pool was greatly reduced. if there had been no bountys i would have made about almost $60. 1st would have got $240. but only got $121 + bountys. are these kinds on tournys worth playing. i think i will stick to re-buys and just plain freeze-outs from now on.

Yes, thats true, if you score high in a bounty tournament you wished it wasnt a bounty
If you play just to get to the final table you are probably better off playing regular tournaments, but if you are in the mood for an agressive play it can be fun to play a bounty.

If you are non-US, you could join PKR and play a Terminator Xtreme, where 100% of the buyin goes into the bounties. If you knock someone out, 75% goes into your account, and the remaining 25% is an additional bounty on you. So if you make the final table, there are probably some big bounties to win.

can't play a PKR because i am from the US. but that type of tourny sounds better than the regular bounty ones. at least it sounds like you could make some good money at it.

I wrote a Bounty Strategy Guide here on Holdem Poker Chat.

I'm a big fan of bounty games, I find them very profitable. There have been times where I have won over 50% of all total money.

overall winnings playing bounties

i like bounties and ive deffinately made more on the bounties
than ive lost in the payout stucture
most of the time i get a few bounties sometimes lots and i play alot more agressive
early in the tourny which gains me heads but may cost me placing in the money
alot of times though the agressive play gets me chips therefore places me in the money
granted it costs money in the payout structure but overall with all considerations my journal says
im way ahead
good luck at the tables and ill be looking for heads he he wink
