upgrade to vista .. think again

Hi everyone

Do not upgrade or buy any Windows Vista...

A vista update:

1) as of January 30th all computers with XP were ordered back to mfg co get Vista on them
2) May customers took their vista computer back to Walmart and were told that since the machine was basically working they would not take them back and they had no more computers with XP on them
3) Emachine says it is not allowed to sell or put XP on anymore machines after Jan 30th
4) Even though Microsoft says a minimum of 1GB RAM is required to run vista, eMachine (Gateway) can sell a computer with 512MB because the vista version on the computer is an abbreviated version called BASIC. Upgrades to premium version costs $239 .... ultimate version $399. VERSION.
5) Print drivers will only be upgraded by each printer mfg going back 18 months. So if your printer is older than that, you will have to purchase a new printer to work on Vista.
6) Digital camera users will have to go thru the same thing waiting for new drivers to become available So you may have to buy a new camera.
7) getting thru to tech support (Emachine, microsoft, etc) for any computer related product is almost impossible.
8)And lastly, if your new computer comes with vista you cannot format it and rollback to XP because all the chips, video cards, sound cards etc will only work with Vista installed. So now reality is we must upgrade everything we own to Vistas specifications...

Thank you very much bill gates, you jerk!!

My Vista Story

I had to buy a computer recently. Yes it has vista installed. In the follow ups I will advise you related to some of the problems I have thus far encountered.

When doing the initial set up there is a ton of garbage that I either did not want or needed to eliminate. Removing programs in vista is a real problem there is related remnants of programs hidden thru out the machine.

The first thing I wanted rid of was the Norton preinstallation. I downloaded the handy dandy Norton removal tool and executed the tool. This tool does a good job on XP and 98.

This tool which is advertised to clean it out did not do the job.

De- Evolutionizing a Compaq 5130 NX

Take Heart it is possible to take them back to XP. There is a LOT of folks out there who don't care for Ugly Bloated Bag of Windows! (Vista).
I recently bought my wife a New Compaq 5130 NX 3800X2 Dual Core cause frankly I couldn't build it that cheap. 1st Order your restore disks from HP so if you fail You can always go back. 2nd Do a search on HP and get the specs for your machine. 3rd go on the hunt for your drivers check with the Motherboard Manufacturer as in my case they were absolutely no help what so ever. :-D So I did another search of the Motherboard on a few major search engines and found it mentioned on several forums like Major Geeks and some others. lot of good advice there and links to drivers. As it was an ASUS MB with nVIDIA chipsets I was able to down load all those drivers From nVidia and so forth and so on. Some of the drivers installed when I ran XP through Windows Update after Installation.
No my wife has the hottest ride in the house( :-D Did I just Type that)
Well anyway you get the point. You know its incredible that they think we should be so gulliable as to spend Hundreds of dollars to upgrade and get Really!! crappy performance. Here you have a cutting edge computer with DDR2 Ram and a 939 pin socket 3800 Dual Core Processor and it could be out benchmarked by a four year old home built computer running just plain old DDR Ram and a 754 pin socket 3000 single core processor on a low end MSI Motherboard. Now with several thousand megabytes of useless HP software and Vista wiped away and replaced with XP home this box RUNS like a big DOG!!!. That double Data ram really Makes the difference it even easily out benches my 3800 dual core with regular DDR on it. I thought they would be closer than it was but it sure wasn't
Hope this helps and strap on that detective, hat anything is possible and if not slap in that vista restore disks and order up some Ram cause your gonna need it.

Mad Turtle is right, I had been doing computer repair since 1982 until medical problems forced me to close my shop last year. If someone really wanted to, I could put windows 1.0 on their new computer and make it work fairly effortlessly. I have had a rash of past customers and friends of past customers calling recently, begging for me to Install XP on their new systems in place of Vista. I have reluctantly done approximately 1 of these downgrades every day for the past 3 months and to be honest I am sick of it. But to be fair to Microsoft, every time they release a new OS it has been designed to make use of every available resource and with today's Quad core processors and 16 Gb memory capabilities, if you have a maxed out system such as this, Vista runs awesome. However for the rest of us, If you are running a single or dual core processor with less than 4 GB of memory and a video card with less than 512mb, stick with XP, you will avoid many headaches. GL

yeah, people made the exact same comments when xp replaced 98/millenium/2000. I personally like vista. Of course that user account control had to go in the first 5 minutes. That'll drive you batty.

P.S. I have a quad core with 3GB ram, 256MB ATI X1950 pro and it runs like lightning.

Most of my problems with VISTA are related to Internet Explorer. If anyone can tell me how to avoid IE problems I would be grateful.

Right now, my workaround is to use Mozilla Firefox for downloading where possible. But I'm reluctant to make it my default browser because I don't know enough about VISTA to be sure it won't screw up the interface with the poker sites for deposit and withdrawals.

I've had my new computer for one month, I really like Vista. I use Firefox as my browser, never internet explorer, and don't have any problem depositing or withdrawing on my poker sites, other than the problem with no US online poker and my credit cards getting rejected. I'm using ePassporte and it's working good. And I can't use an icon to open Jungle or Wingows, I just have to download off the setup everytime. That's just my personal experience.

I've had the same problem with Jungle and the others in that network. I have a whole folder of install programs for them and just click the install instead of the desktop icon to load them. It's a pain in the butt though.

Do you use Windows Live Messenger and Hotmail? I'm having a problem getting from Messenger to Hotmail. Anyone know how to get it to work properly in VISTA?
