Well my son was on the card last night at the Saratoga springs NY holiday Inn Convention center NYS golden gloves, moves to round 2 next week at renselaer ny. Got a walk over. Kinda sux. we had 24 people from all over the state there to cheer him on. his apponent representing West point military academy never made the trip. Was left of the team /bus for disciplinary reasons. Thats all they would say. Shoulda seen my wife and two grown daughters corner this Army coach and give him a public a---s reamin about teaching responsibility to young men. Instead of giving an advanced phone call and saving our family a few hundred dollers we get, just "disciplinary reasons" and a dissapointed boy. says my wife. Theres your discipline soldier boy. Says my daughter. And they huff off. Guy didn't know what hit him. Talk about red faced. shoulda seen it. My son was hot when he found out, after going through weigh ins , doctor check up and all. his coach took him outside so he wouldn't trash the hotel. He really was mad. Punched a couple of padded walls. Coach told him this though which helped. Erich your in round 2 now, Your apponent next week had a fight tonight in buffalo, or syracuse or nyc. And he won, and,, he got a couple of good hits from his apponent , and next week hes still gonna be feeling this week. That made my son calm down. then we all watched the fights. Erich was called up after the 4th fight. That was a surprise to him and us. they called him up, Referree raised his arm called him the winner and gave him a trophy. I was ok with that. My wife poo pooed it at first but on the way home relented, said it was the least they could do though...then the 5th fight was erichs sparring partner , Mike, from our gym against one of the west point guys. He actually lost the first round, got a bloody nose. second round was about even, and the third round started out fast for the army guy till about a minute in when he walked into a straight right to the nose and went out like a light, knocked out cold. So that was encouraging for us all. My son does routinely knock mike around the ring while sparring. even though he pretty much sticks to the lesson plan of the night. So anyway, thats where we stand. I'll tell ya all how next week goes.
