I read this quite a while ago and would make the comment that if you can get it from a library or borrow it from a friend then go ahead but you could invest your money in a much better book. I'm a big fan of Sklansky and his books. If you play Limit, or even if you don't, I would recommend Small Stakes Holdem, The Theory of Poker, both by Sklansky and also Harrington on Holdem for tournament play.

I would not recommend this book, it was easily one of the worst poker books I have ever read. I think if you are going to buy a poker book, it should be Harrington on Holdem, those are easily the best poker books out there right now. Please save your money and don't buy Phil's book I really had a hard time reading it, just was not very interesting, and I didn't learn barely anything. I knew most of what he mentioned in that book.

Phil's book is a very beginner oriented book. The Holdem sections are good for micro games but its a good first poker book for the most part. The razz section is probably the only worth while poker section in it. I always recommend reading everything about poker though as it may not help your game but it could give you insight into the way some other people play who have read the book. Also one new concept learned can plug a leak or improve your game. Goodluck

i leafed thru a copy at my local sueprmarket once. it is mostly beginner-oriented material. for anyone slightly more advanced than that HOH is a better bet.

Its good if you are brand new to poker, but i really wouldnt recommend it. Basic strategies and small sections on some other games. Should have been all NLH but im sure that book will come from Helmuth some day.

I wouldn't even say it's very good if you're brand new to poker. I'd say it's good if you want to train to be a fish, but we know that's not what you are, so...steer clear. We know Phil could put good information into a book, but this one is definitely just there to sell to newbies without a clue.

Yeah it's definately a beginners book. That said, the razz and omaha hi-lo sections were the areas I got the most out of. If you want a better understanding of nlhe, I'd suggest Super Systems 1 and 2.

Hi,

I'm not a person who likes to read books.

Therefore I bought the DVDs of Phil Hellmuth.

They are quite good. I learned a lot about his strategies to play poker (online or live).

I'm very astonished, that Phil is a very kind person (in private) and not the horrible person in a tournament I knew from TV.
