what game?

What game are you trying to improve.? Doyle Bunsen's Super system II is a great book for all the different forms of Poker. It has info on all the major varieties, as well as tells etc.

If your trying to improve on no limit tournament play than the series by Dan Harrington "Harrington on Hold 'Em" are my pick. Its a 3 volume set, v1 is on early tournament play, v2 is on end-game play, v3 is a workbook that lets you evaluate what you learned in the first 2 books.

Many have said that if you are buying just 1 book than v2 is the book you should get. It covers end-game strategy, however you may need to play the end-game strategy in the early rounds if you get fairly low on chips early.

I read v2 before v1 just because we didn't have v1 in the store at the time I was looking for a new poker book to read. I have since started reading v1, both are excellent book on tournament play.

If you are just starting playing hold-um tourneys then get book 1 first, it gives you the info on what hands to start playing at each position, how to bet before and after the flop with various hands etc.

If you are already playing in tournaments and doing fairly well (making it well past the 1st break) just not winning then get v2 and work on your end-game play.

So far i'm really liking the little blue and green books by Phil Gordon... I'd suggest that you first try renting books free of charge from your library and once you find that special book go out and buy it... Good luck!

I agree with Slims, Harringtons books are definitely worth a read if you are trying to improve your tourney play. I have also read Super System and again Slims is right, its a good general book.

Great suggestion to go to library -I was surprised at the books available
and they are free. If you like one is particular, you can then buy it
(AT SP AMAZON Store?) and know what ur gettin.

For me Super System (either version) is #1. In the preface of SS II, Mr. Brunson writes, "its been years since I read SS I, and while reading it I've said many times "Damn, thats good! - What was true then is still true today."

ss ii

"For me Super System (either version) is #1."

You are correct that "either version" is the one to go with.

SS 1 and 2 are almost identical, so get whichever one you can find the cheapest. If they are the same price or close then go with 2, as it has a little (very little) bit more info.
