Real Money Players Forum Challenge

This is a real money buyin tournament with a $10 buyin per player and $100 added by each forum so there was $500 added to the prize pool. Points are given for positional finishes and forums are ranked according to their finish. Teams were limited to 15 players per forum this time and next time the teams will be expanded to 20 players because of the success of Sundays event.

I am sorry that I was so lax in getting the word out on this, but I was all caught up in playing the WSOP last week and thought that the last event was the 8th so I would have plenty of time to contact everyone. Past experiences with these types of games have not been the best so I was a bit skeptical too (some of you know what I mean), except for the fact that I thought highly of the person who was organizing it. I thought that I would be able to get the word out about the Forum Challenge for real money players after I got back with no problem.

The first event was Sunday and there were 5 forum involved. BRAX sent out an email to the MaSo MoTo players about it as a heads up and to see who would be interested (it was limitied to teams of 15 from each forum) and I was going to submit the list when I got back from Vegas. Then all hell broke loose as I got an email that said it was TODAY (Sunday).

I scrambled and we got a great showing from a few players that showed up. I think we had 8 players total and 3 at the final table; Ohmanda (3), Flushem (5) and Shantzy (7). I know that at least one person, Bonds, who really wanted to play got left of the allow list and I apologize for that; it was my fault although I still am not sure how it happened. If you still want to play Stewart WILL NOT BE LEFT OFF AGAIN.

Anyway, if there are some that want to play let me know. We are giving the Cartel members on the MaSO MoTo list first choice to play since they are already committed to playing in such events.

Great showing Sunday and watch the calendar for the next event.

A few random comments about this competition...

Yes, our team was hastily organized, or disorganized ;-), as the case may be. The registration deadline was Friday but apparently they still accepted our list later than that. Anyway, I was glad to be able to enter come Sunday.

The word I heard was that only four forums registered (Cartel, Poker101a, Holdem Radio and TFCL) so there was a maximum of 60 entrants. Only 49 players actually entered so with our team being seven short we were severely disadvantaged given the point scoring system.

I'm a little confused on the payout schedule. The prize pool shown in the lobby was $523 and change. With AP's 9% cut that worked out to $575 total before tax. 49 entrants at $10 each would be $490. That means there was only $85 added. What happened to the $400 from the forums?

The game was broadcast on Holdem Radio. I asked Wade if it was going to be unbiased coverage or Homer Radio... He claimed unbiased but there was a little slant for their team. The coverage was hampered a little because there was lack of information about which players were playing for which team. That made the play by play and live tourney standings a little weaker than they could have been.

On to the game itself. It was obvious that the Cartellers were outnumbered. Periodically people would identify who they were playing for... not too many for us. There was no outright collusion but there was definately some deference to teammates. I guess that is expected to some degree in this kind of game. I wonder if any standard rules or guidelines exist for a team poker competition.

After getting AA on the first hand which only stole the blinds, my cards were extremely cold for the first half of the tourney. Midway, I finally got AA again when DrTanTodd decided to make a play with his AQo. My hand held up for the double. Finally with enough chips to play i was able to mix it up a little.

The bubble was hard fought but finally the final table was set. FlushEm was running hot in second place until he challenged the chip leader and lost. I looked away for a second and he was gone in 5th or 6th... i forget. The final four included one player from each of the forums. Due to the point structure it meant who ever won the tourney was going to win the challenge for their forum. I think Holdem Radio went out in 4th. My final hand was KTo... chip leader called with KJo... crud... flop AQ7, turn T... made my pair but he straightened up. I needed an Ace on the river but got a 9... out.

Heads up went for at least twenty minutes, maybe more. Massive chip leader lost most of it then got it back to finally win. TFCL wins, Poker101a 2nd, Cartel 3rd, Holdem Radio 4th.

It was an excellent game by all players. The conspicuous lack of donkey play validated to the structure of the match where forums and players all put up their own money and had a vested interest. I'm looking forward to the next time with hopefully a few more forums involved.

Thanks Poker Cartel for signing up and sponsoring our team.

Well I tried to represent the cartel with distinction but I guessed early on it wasnt going to be my night qq and jj both losing in the first 10 hands and finally qq running into kk b4 the end of the 1st hour secured my dissapointing show. Sorry guys wanted to do better but I am running like this everywhere at the mo so maybe u should pick someone else until my cards start winning again. :(

the money from the forums will be added to the accounts of the winners (those that cashed) by absolute.. not sure why, but it will be in our accounts by wednesday for sure...

don't panic until then.. they didn't take the money out of my account as of this morning (sure it is the same for the other forums) so i am sure they will do that today and then distribute it appropriately, if they haven't already...

the disorganization is entirely my fault... i have been out of pocket for a month almost (a slight return to earth for about a week but so busy i neglected things), but that will change now and i will be as disorganized as i was before ... ...

congratulations goes to us too for finishing 2nd in the challenge.. if shy had been there we would have won for sure... :D
