im reading poker pro mag dec 2010 issue.skill vs luck revisited pg 80..it got me thinking,it said that out of 103 million hands analized excluding heads up, play money games and limits under $1 blinds.out of 103 million observed 75.7 percent never went to showdown, the remaning 24.3% that did go2 showdown, the best hand won only 50.3% of the time.so in conclusion they say its 88% skill 12% luck luck plays a huge factor when the best hand only won 50.3 percent of the time.i don't know about u but i've never lost my stack due to not showing down. tell me what u think:confused: |

yep tina poker is poker and theres always a donkey or whatever you choose to call it.I have to agree with mgb ,the best hand doesnt always win.Depending on the players and skill level at the table alot of hands never see a showdown.

| Re : luck vs skill 103 million hands
Lol..., Every person seems to be lucky themselves when he/she plays poker. I always try to learn with fake chips, because if you go broke there, you can always get 1k more.

I have to agree with the higher skill percentage vs luck. I would have said the exact same thing as mgb said. It takes a good skill to get a player to fold before the showdown even if they don't have the best hand. Out of the 24% that does go to the showdown, there is a 50/50 chance the best hand will win. One might have the best hand on the flop, but the other player may have a large number of outs and hits one of them. That does not make the a donkey or necessarily lucky. Just means they hit one of their high number of outs. If you broke it down by outs the worse had had going down to the showdown, the percentages would be interesting to see. I am still certain that if they had less outs (less they 10 outs after the flop) the percentage of them hitting and getting lucky is much less than 50%.

I think that skill is more useful in poker than luck. |
