An Omaha Conclusion

For me when I play poker, I like to have the thought that I am the best player at the table or entered in a tournament, its not conceit its confidence.

I've been getting more active into playing regular Omaha tournaments. Awhile back I posted some tournament wins where I destroyed the playing field for a straight week.

People talk about Omaha being more about luck, compared to Holdem. I couldn't disagree more, ok well maybe " I " could.

I wondered, maybe I am just the best player on that site I was at, and that isn't good enough for me, so I started playing at some other sites.

Playing not only Pot Limit Omaha High, but some Hi / Low as well, even a few re buys which normally I despise.

I have more then come to the conclusion that it is easier for a better Omaha player to take advantage of the weaker players compared to Holdem, and possibly Stud too.

If your an Omaha player, right now is a great time to be playing. So many new players are trying to learn, and some that do understand the game, don't play well.

Free Money from Pokerstars

PokerStars (http://www.pokerstars.com/?source=hpcmax50) is in the middle of their Summer Games (http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/promotions/summergames/?source=hpcmax50) promotion. The tournaments are listed in Tourney>Regional.

You may say, "But Lk, I still need to be a good poker player to win the $5 for the top 250 players". You could say that, but you would be incorrect in the assumption. And I am here to tell you how to win that $5.

You can find the round 1 schedule right here: http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/promotions/summergames/?source=hpcmax50 (http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/promotions/summergames/) . Now I will use the current game #6 as an example. These games run every day at 8 pm, 8:30pm, 10pm, and 10:30pm. You can only play one from each group. So you can only play one 5 card draw game. You do not want to play right off. Give it a couple days. The 5 draw games end on the 2nd of October. I will probably play mine on the first. Also, don't play the 8pm game, way too many people play that one. I would suggest playing the 8:30 pm, or the 10:30 pm games. If it stays the same as it has always been, you should have around 500 or so players in the games. That means 50% of the players are going to make $5. I am not saying that you can fold to the money, though you might be able to. I am saying you now have a 50% chance of making $5. Now get in there and make some money!

With a full month (July) down playing and keeping tabs on the PL Omaha tournaments I been playing, I have started to follow that up with writing a guide/lesson for it.

I've always played well at Omaha, and it is not network depended. What I have notice is the ease of success at lower levels, not rock bottom, but low.

There is 2 reason for this.
1. most players don't know how to play
2. most players are not willing to learn

had taken a break of that site, but got back into playing PL Omaha, which I seem to shine on.

My last 4 tournaments I have played on PKR are PL Omaha, in which I placed

June 26th 2nd
July 18th 1st
July 22nd 2nd
July 23rd 7th (non cash out)

I am gonna draw up a goal very soon and implement it for August. Something like 15 PL Omaha trnys with 5 top 3 finishes, and min 10 total cash outs.

Well I'm in the money in event #7. I had one of my best and luckiest sessions ever. I lost only 3 races all day and managed to piss off a whole lot of people. I had them punching the table, cursing me out, etc. But thats poker.

Anyway, there's 152 left and I'm middle of the pack in chips. Today, I'll try to pick on some smaller stacks and try to build my stack into the top 10% of the field.

I'll try to keep Borgo updated as the day goes on.

Also, don't forget we have a Bodog Freeroll tonight with a WSOP qualifier seat up for grabs. I tried to email all the members, but something is screwy with our email system. Sorry, no time to fix that today.

We'll after a brief stop in the Northeast, We're on our way to Vegas today. The excitement is starting. I can't believe I'll be playing tomorrow.

I read Negreanu's blog last night and according to him there have been some great changes for this year. Most notably, there is no more tents, woohoo. No steam baths for those playing in satellites.

They also moved the cage to another room, which hopefully means no more long lines to register to play. There also seems to be more food options for players, including a noodle station and a pizza hut stand.

The next post will be from Las Vegas....

I've begun packing for my trip, It's amazing how much crap I have to take with me. Cameras, little gadgets, etc. Not to mention clothes for all occasions. I guarantee I'll still manage to forget something.

I normally don't pack until an hour before heading to the airport, but I'm very excited to go, so I started early this time around.

Funny thing is, I'm looking forward to playing, but I think I'm more excited to just lay around by the pool and do nothing. I've been busy since the end of last year and really just need to recharge my batteries. So I think I'll just do nothing on the 1st, except maybe go see how Mainstick and Perry are doing at the tables.

Back to packing...

Hey everyone,

Class recently let out (pulled a 3.65 GPA last semester, not terrible) which leaves me a lot of free time. Though I am working with the city to design a plan to bring business to town, I am done by 4 every day. With very few people on campus (read: no females) I have a lot of downtime. Do you know what that means?

POKER! I am finally going to get back into playing. The only thing I've really played this YEAR was the marathon, so the itch has slowly been returning. Probably going to be tourneying it up at Cake, though PokerStars will definitely see its share of me as well.

So, I am PUMPED! Hanging out in a fraternity house all summer, playing poker, not a bad way to spend a few months, eh?
